Welcome to my blog!
I am a retired 5th grade math & science teacher. Although I retired this past May, I can’t seem to resist the urge to teach math. As teachers, we are always trying to challenge our students to think and to wonder. To ask questions. To come up with reasonable solutions. Now that I’ve retired, I have some time to spend on this challenge.
One of the things we did at the beginning of every math class was a Success Starter (warm-up, attention grabber, whatever you want to call it). I was thinking that I could help out my teacher friends by finding fun and interesting math questions and presenting them in very short (less than 1 minute) videos. The questions are designed for grades 3-6. Teachers can use these videos as warm-ups, or as tickets out at the end of class, or as extra challenge problems, however they like.
I am very excited to give this a try, but I will need your help and feedback. If it’s something you and your students like, let me know. If it isn’t, please let me know what I can do to turn it into something useful for your classroom. I will be out looking for math problems everywhere, but particularly around Magnolia, Tomball, and Houston, TX. If you can think of any questions I should explore, let me know.
I will create a separate post for each math problem. I will include the video and a picture of the question. Thank you again for visiting my blog, and I hope to hear from you soon. Click on this link for an intro video. Here we go…
